Oaths and Vows
The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.
وَعَنْ اِبْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اَللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا, { عَنْ اَلنَّبِيِّ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -أَنَّهُ نَهَى عَنْ اَلنَّذْرِ وَقَالَ:
" إِنَّهُ لَا يَأْتِي بِخَيْرٍ وَإِنَّمَا يُسْتَخْرَجُ بِهِ مِنْ اَلْبَخِيلِ" } مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ 1 .1 - . صحيح. رواه البخاري ( 6608 )، ومسلم ( 1639 ) واللفظ لمسلم. وفي لفظ لهما: "إنه لا يرد شيئا" وآخره مثله. إلا أنه وقع عند مسلم في رواية: "وإنما يستخرج به من الشحيح". وفي أخرى لهما أيضا : " إن النذر لا يقدم شيئا، ولا يؤخر" والباقي مثله.
Narrated Ibn 'Umar (RA): The Prophet (ﷺ) forbade making vows, and said, "It does not bring good. Indeed, it is only a means by which something is extracted from the miserly."
