The Book of Prayer

The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.

وَعَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ قَالَ: { كُنَّا نُصَلِّي اَلْمَغْرِبَ مَعَ اَلنَّبِيِّ ‏- صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏-فَيَنْصَرِفُ أَحَدُنَا وَإِنَّهُ لَيُبْصِرُ مَوَاقِعَ نَبْلِهِ } مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ 1‏ .‏‏1 ‏- صحيح.‏ رواه البخاري (559)‏، ومسلم (637)‏.‏ وقال الحافظ في "الفتح" (2 /41)‏: "ومقتضاه المبادرة بالمغرب في أول وقتها، بحيث أن الفراغ منها يقع والضوء باق".‏
Narrated Rafi' bin Khadij (RA): We used to offer the Maghrib prayer with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and then one of us would go (out of the mosque) and be able to see the spot his would fall at. .
