Bulugh al-Maram #214

The Book of Prayer

The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.

عَنْ أَبِي مَحْذُورَةَ ‏- رضى الله عنه ‏- { أَنَّ اَلنَّبِيَّ ‏- صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏-عَلَّمَهُ اَلْآذَانَ, فَذَكَرَ فِيهِ اَلتَّرْجِيعَ } أَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ.‏ وَلَكِنْ ذَكَرَ اَلتَّكْبِيرَ فِي أَوَّلِهِ مَرَّتَيْنِ فَقَطْ 1‏ .‏‏1 ‏- صحيح.‏ رواه مسلم (379)‏.‏ "والترجيع": أي في الشهادتين فيقولها مرة بصوت منخفض، ومرة أخرى بصوت مرتفع.‏
Narrated Abu Mahdhura (RA): The Prophet (ﷺ) taught him the Adhan (call to prayer) and he (the narrator) mentioned the Tarji' in it. [Muslim reported it, but mentioned the phrase (Takbir) "Allah is the Most Great" at its beginning just twice.
