The Book of Prayer
The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.
زَادَ مُسْلِمٌ: { لَا يَذْكُرُونَ : (بِسْمِ اَللَّهِ اَلرَّحْمَنِ اَلرَّحِيمِ ) فِي أَوَّلِ قِرَاءَةٍ وَلَا فِي آخِرِهَا } . 11 - وهي زيادة صحيحة ، وأسوق هنا الرواية بتمامها من مسلم إذ سياقه لها يختلف عن سياق البخاري . قال أنس بن مالك : "صليت خلف النبي -صلى الله عليه وسلم- وأبي بكر ، وعمر ، وعثمان فكانوا يستفتحون بالحمد لله رب العالمين . لا يذكرون : بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم . في أول قراءة ولا في آخرها" . وفي رواية : فلم أسمع أحدا منهم يقرأ : بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم . قلت : وقد أعل بعضهم هذه الزيادة التي عند مسلم بما لا يقدح.
And Muslim added: "They would not recite Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim, neither in the beginning of the recitation nor at the end of it."
