Bulugh al-Maram #447

The Book of Prayer

The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.

وَلِلْخَمْسَةِ ‏- وَصَحَّحَهُ اِبْنِ حِبَّانَ ‏- : { صَلَاةُ اَللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى" } وَقَالَ النَّسَائِيُّ : "هَذَا خَطَأٌ" .‏ 1‏‏1 ‏- صحيح .‏ رواه أبو داود ( 1295 )‏ ، والنسائي ( 3 / 227 )‏ ، والترمذي ( 597 )‏ ، وابن ماجه ( 1322 )‏ ، وأحمد ( 2 / 26 و 51 )‏ .‏ وقول النسائي موجود في " سننه " وهو يريد أن الحديث خطأ بهذا اللفظ " والنهار " وهذه الزيادة محل نزاع بين الأئمة ، وممن صححها أمير المؤمنين محمد بن إسماعيل البخاري، رحمه الله .‏
The Khamsah reported it - graded Sahib (authentic) by Ibn Hibban - with the wording: "the (voluntary) day and night prayers are two Rak'at, two Rak'at (in pairs)." an-Nasa'i said, "This is a mistake."
