The Book of Prayer
The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.
وَلِلْخَمْسَةِ - وَصَحَّحَهُ اِبْنِ حِبَّانَ - : { صَلَاةُ اَللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى" } وَقَالَ النَّسَائِيُّ : "هَذَا خَطَأٌ" . 11 - صحيح . رواه أبو داود ( 1295 ) ، والنسائي ( 3 / 227 ) ، والترمذي ( 597 ) ، وابن ماجه ( 1322 ) ، وأحمد ( 2 / 26 و 51 ) . وقول النسائي موجود في " سننه " وهو يريد أن الحديث خطأ بهذا اللفظ " والنهار " وهذه الزيادة محل نزاع بين الأئمة ، وممن صححها أمير المؤمنين محمد بن إسماعيل البخاري، رحمه الله .
The Khamsah reported it - graded Sahib (authentic) by Ibn Hibban - with the wording: "the (voluntary) day and night prayers are two Rak'at, two Rak'at (in pairs)."
an-Nasa'i said, "This is a mistake."
