Bulugh al-Maram #781
Fasting
The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.
وَفِي لَفْظٍ: { فَقِيلَ لَهُ: إِنَّ اَلنَّاسَ قَدْ شَقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ اَلصِّيَامُ, وَإِنَّمَا يَنْظُرُونَ فِيمَا فَعَلْتَ، فَدَعَا بِقَدَحٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ بَعْدَ اَلْعَصْرِ، فَشَرِبَ } رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ 1 .1 - حسن. وهذه الرواية في " مسلم " ( 1114 ) ( 91 )، ولكن لفظ: " فشرب" ليس في "الصحيح "، وإنما هو من أوهام الحافظ رحمه الله.
In another narration, ‘He was told that people are finding it difficult to fast (during the journey) and they are waiting to see what the Prophet (ﷺ) will do. So he called for a cup of water after the Asr (afternoon) prayer and drank it.’ Related by Muslim.
