Bulugh al-Maram #787
Fasting
The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.
وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اَللَّهُ عَنْهَا; أَنَّ رَسُولَ اَللَّهِ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -قَالَ: { مَنْ مَاتَ وَعَلَيْهِ صِيَامٌ صَامَ عَنْهُ وَلِيُّهُ } مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ 1 .1 - صحيح. رواه البخاري ( 1952 ) ومسلم ( 1147 ). " تنبيه ": الصوم الذي في هذا الحديث هو صوم النذر فقط، كما كنت بينت ذلك في كتابي " الإلمام بآداب وأحكام الصيام " الطبعة الأولى ص ( 65 - 66 ).
'A’isha (RAA) narrated that The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever dies while he still has some fasts to make up (of the days of Ramadan), then his heir (any of them) should fast on his behalf.” Agreed upon.
