Mishkat al-Masabih #3932
Game and Animals Which May Be Slaughtered
The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.
Ibn ‘Umar reported God’s messenger as saying, "If anyone acquires a dog, except a sheepdog or one trained for hunting, two qirats will be deducted from his good deeds daily."
(Bukhari and Muslim.)
