Mishkat al-Masabih #437
Purification
The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.
وَعَن أَبِي رَافِعٍ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ طَافَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ عَلَى نِسَائِهِ يَغْتَسِلُ عِنْدَ هَذِهِ وَعِنْدَ هَذِهِ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلَا تَجْعَلُهُ غُسْلًا وَاحِدًا آخِرًا قَالَ: «هَذَا أَزْكَى وَأطيب وأطهر» . رَوَاهُ أَحْمد وَأَبُو دَاوُد
Abu Rafi' said: One day God’s messenger visited his wives, washing after intercourse with each, so I asked, “Messenger of God, why do you not simply wash once at the end?” He replied, “This is purer, better and cleaner.
Ahmad and Abu Dawud transmitted it.
