Mishkat al-Masabih #483
Purification
The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.
وَعنهُ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يمسح على الْخُفَّيْنِ على ظاهرهما. رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيّ وَأَبُو دَاوُد
He also said, “I saw the Prophet wiping over the upper part of his shoes.”
Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud transmitted it.
