Musnad 'Ali Ibn Abi Talib

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ شَقِيقٍ كَانَ عُثْمَانُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَنْهَى عَنْ الْمُتْعَةِ وَعَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَأْمُرُ بِهَا فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ لِعَلِيٍّ إِنَّكَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ثُمَّ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ أَنَّا قَدْ تَمَتَّعْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ أَجَلْ وَلَكِنَّا كُنَّا خَائِفِينَ.
`Abdullah bin Shaqeeq said. `Uthman (رضي الله عنه) forbade tamattu` and `Ali (رضي الله عنه) enjoined it. ‘Uthman said to ‘Ali: You do such and such. Then ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: You know that we did tamattu` with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). said: Yes, but we were afraid.
Narrated by `Abdullah bin Shaqeeq said. `Uthman (رضي الله عنه) forbade tamattu` and `Ali (رضي الله عنه) enjoined it. ‘Uthman said to ‘Ali:
