Muwatta Malik #1259
Divorce
The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.
وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِكُلِّ مُطَلَّقَةٍ مُتْعَةٌ .
قَالَ مَالِكٌ وَبَلَغَنِي عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ . قَالَ مَالِكٌ لَيْسَ لِلْمُتْعَةِ عِنْدَنَا حَدٌّ مَعْرُوفٌ فِي قَلِيلِهَا وَلاَ كَثِيرِهَا .
Yahya related to me from Malik that Ibn Shihab said, "Every
divorced woman has compensation."
Malik said, "I have also
heard the same as that from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad."
Malik
said, "There is no fixed limit among us as to how small or large the
compensation is."
