حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي قَالَ، سُئِلَ أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ كَانَ يَحْيَى يَقُولُ وَأَنَا أَسْمَعُ فَسَقَطَ عَنِّي ـ عَنْ مَسِيرِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ، قَالَ فَكَانَ يَسِيرُ الْعَنَقَ، فَإِذَا وَجَدَ فَجْوَةً نَصَّ‏.‏ وَالنَّصُّ فَوْقَ الْعَنَقِ‏.‏
Usama bin Zaid was asked at what pace the Prophet (ﷺ) rode during Hajjat-ul-Wada` "He rode at a medium pace, but when he came upon an open way he would go at full pace."

This hadith describes the pace at which the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ rode during his Farewell Pilgrimage. Usama bin Zaid recounts that the Prophet rode at a moderate pace, but would increase his speed when he encountered open paths. Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. So whoever makes Hajj to the House or performs 'umrah - there is no blame upon him for walking between them. And whoever volunteers good - then indeed, Allah is appreciative and Knowing.
