Sahih al-Bukhari #3020

One-fifth of Booty to the Cause of Allah (Khumus)
Sahih

The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.

While I was walking with the Prophet (ﷺ) who was wearing a Najrani outer garment with a thick hem, a bedouin came upon the Prophet (ﷺ) and pulled his garment so violently that I could recognize the impress of the hem of the garment on his shoulder, caused by the violence of his pull. Then the bedouin said, "Order for me something from Allah's Fortune which you have." The Prophet (ﷺ) turned to him and smiled, and ordered that a gift be given to him.
Narrated by Narrated Anas bin Malik:

Context

The Bedouin demanded a share of the wealth from Allah's provisions. Instead of reacting negatively, the Prophet (ﷺ) smiled and instructed that the man be given a gift. This highlights the Prophet's (ﷺ) kindness and generosity even in unexpected situations.

Modern Application

Topics

This hadith is tagged with Charity and Hospitality in Islam because it illustrates the Prophet's (ﷺ) immediate response to a request for help and his willingness to provide for others.
