Call to Prayers (Adhaan)
Sahih

The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.

Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri told my father, "I see you liking sheep and the wilderness. So whenever you are with your sheep or in the wilderness and you want to pronounce Adhan for the prayer raise your voice in doing so, for whoever hears the Adhan, whether a human being, a jinn or any other creature, will be a witness for you on the Day of Resurrection." Abu Sa`id added, "I heard it (this narration) from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)."

Context

In this hadith, Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri recounts a conversation with the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) regarding the importance of the Adhan, or call to prayer, especially when one is in the wilderness with sheep. The Prophet emphasized that raising one's voice during the Adhan would lead to all creatures hearing it and witnessing for the person on the Day of Resurrection. This highlights the significance of the Adhan and its role in connecting the community to prayer.

Modern Application

In today's world, the Adhan serves as a reminder for Muslims to pause and engage in prayer, even amidst busy lives. It encourages individuals to maintain their spiritual connection, whether at home, work, or in public spaces, fostering a sense of community and shared faith.

Topics

This hadith is tagged with Prayer and Prophetic Conduct because it emphasizes the importance of the Adhan in the practice of prayer and illustrates the Prophet's (ﷺ) guidance on how to perform it.
