Sunan Abu Dawud #1107

Prayer (Kitab Al-Salat)
Sahih

The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) commanded us to shorten the speeches.
Narrated by Narrated Ammar ibn Yasir:

Context

Ammar ibn Yasir narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) instructed his followers to keep their speeches short. This guidance reflects the importance of being concise and to the point, especially in religious settings where the attention of the audience is crucial. The takeaway is that effective communication is valued, and lengthy speeches may detract from the message being conveyed.

Modern Application

In modern gatherings, whether in religious or secular contexts, being succinct can enhance the effectiveness of communication. People appreciate clear and direct messages, which can lead to better engagement and understanding.

Topics

This hadith is tagged with Prophetic Conduct and Respectful Communication because it illustrates the Prophet's guidance on the importance of brevity in speeches to maintain attention and respect.
