Sunan Abu Dawud #2446

Context
In this hadith, Ibn 'Abbas recounts how the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) instructed his companions to fast on the day of 'Ashurah. When they expressed concern that this day was significant to Jews and Christians, the Prophet (ﷺ) suggested that they also fast on the 9th of Muharram the following year to differentiate their practice. However, he passed away before this could be implemented.
