Sunan Abu Dawud #3057

Tribute, Spoils, and Rulership (Kitab Al-Kharaj, Wal-Fai' Wal-Imarah)

The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.

The tradition mentioned above has also been transmitted by Mu’awiyah through a different chain of narrators to the same effect as narrated by Abu Taubah. This version has “I have nothing to pay from me. The Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) thereupon kept silence and this displeased me.”

Context

This narration discusses a transmission of a hadith by Mu’awiyah, which emphasizes the importance of accurate reporting in the context of hadith. The silence of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in response to a question indicates the significance of understanding and interpreting his teachings correctly.
