I asked: Messenger of Allah! what is party spirit? He replied: That you should help your people in wrongdoing.
Narrated by Narrated Wathilah ibn al-Asqa':

Context

In this narration, Wathilah ibn al-Asqa' asks the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) about the concept of 'party spirit' or tribalism. The Prophet (ﷺ) defines it as assisting one's people in wrongdoing. This highlights a critical moral lesson about the dangers of loyalty that leads to injustice and the importance of standing against wrongdoing, regardless of personal or tribal affiliations.

Modern Application

Today, this principle can be applied in various social contexts, such as in workplaces or communities where favoritism might lead to unethical decisions. It encourages individuals to prioritize justice and integrity over blind loyalty, fostering a culture of accountability and fairness.

Topics

This hadith is tagged with Community and Ethical Conduct because it addresses the moral implications of supporting one's group in wrongful actions, emphasizing the need for ethical behavior in communal relationships.
