Sunan Abu Dawud #5225

General Behavior (Kitab Al-Adab)

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ أَبِي لَيْلَى، حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ حَدَّثَهُ وَذَكَرَ، قِصَّةً قَالَ فَدَنَوْنَا - يَعْنِي - مِنَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَبَّلْنَا يَدَهُ ‏.‏
Ibn Umar told a story and said: We then came near the Prophet (ﷺ) and kissed his hand.

[We said], "And take in your hand a bunch [of grass] and strike with it and do not break your oath." Indeed, We found him patient, an excellent servant. Indeed, he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allah].

فَغَفَرْنَا لَهُۥ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَإِنَّ لَهُۥ عِندَنَا لَزُلْفَىٰ وَحُسْنَ مَـَٔابٍۢ
So We forgave him that; and indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return.
