God confirms those who believe by a firm saying namely the profession of His Oneness in the life of this world and in the Hereafter that is in the grave when the two angels question them about their Lord their religion and their Prophet and they respond correctly as reported in the hadīth of the two Shaykhs al-Bukhārī and Muslim; and God sends astray the evildoers the disbelievers and therefore they are not guided to the correct response saying instead ‘We do not know’ as reported in the hadīth; and God does what He will.

"Allah will keep firm those who believe, with the world that stands firm in this world, and in the Hereafter. This was revelated concerning the torment in the grave. It will be said to him (the deceased: 'Who is your Lord?' and he will say: 'My Lord is Allah and my Prophet is Muhammad. That is what is (the meaning of) His saying: Allah will keep firm those who believe, with the word that stands firm in this world, and in the Hereafter".

Sahih Muslim #7041Al-Bara' b. 'Azib reported that this verse:Sahih

"Allah keeps those who believe steadfast with firm word in this world and the Hereafter" was revealed in connection with the torment of the grave.

Sunan Ibn Majah #4007It was narrated from Bara’ bin ‘Azib that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:Sahih

“Allah will keep firm those who believe, with the word that stands firm.” This has been revealed concerning the torment of the grave. It will be said to him: ‘Who is your Lord?’ He will say: ‘My Lord is Allah, and my Prophet is Muhammad.’ This is what Allah says: Allah will keep firm those who believe, with the word that stands firm in this world (i.e. they will keep on worshipping Allah Alone and none else), and in the Hereafter (i.e., at the time of questioning in the grave).’”
