أَمْ حَسِبْتُمْ أَن تَدْخُلُوا۟ ٱلْجَنَّةَ وَلَمَّا يَأْتِكُم مَّثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ خَلَوْا۟ مِن قَبْلِكُم ۖ مَّسَّتْهُمُ ٱلْبَأْسَآءُ وَٱلضَّرَّآءُ وَزُلْزِلُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يَقُولَ ٱلرَّسُولُ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ مَتَىٰ نَصْرُ ٱللَّهِ ۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ نَصْرَ ٱللَّهِ قَرِيبٌۭ
Am hasibtum an tadkhulul jannata wa lammaa yaa-tikum masalul lazeena khalaw min qablikum massathumul baasaaa'u waddarraaaa'u wa zulziloo hattaa yaqoolar Rasoolu wallazeena aamanoo ma'ahoo mataa nasrul laah; alaaa inna nasral laahiqareeb
Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while such [trial] has not yet come to you as came to those who passed on before you? They were touched by poverty and hardship and were shaken until [even their] messenger and those who believed with him said, "When is the help of Allah?" Unquestionably, the help of Allah is near.

The following was revealed after the Muslims suffered a trying experience Or did you suppose that you should enter Paradise without there having come upon you the like of what came upon those believers who passed away before you? of trials so that you may endure as they did; a new sentence begins here explaining the previous one They were afflicted by misery extreme poverty and hardship illness and were so convulsed by all types of tribulations that the Messenger and those who believed with him said read yaqūla or yaqūlu not expecting to see any help on account of the extreme hardship afflicting them ‘When will God’s help come?’ the help which we were promised; and God responded to them Ah but surely God’s help is nigh in coming.

shade of the Ka`ba. We said, "Will you ask Allah to help us? Will you invoke Allah for us?" He said,
"Among those who were before you a (believer) used to be seized and, a pit used to be dug for him
and then he used to be placed in it. Then a saw used to be brought and put on his head which would be
split into two halves. His flesh might be combed with iron combs and removed from his bones, yet, all
that did not cause him to revert from his religion. By Allah! This religion (Islam) will be completed
(and triumph) till a rider (traveler) goes from San`a' (the capital of Yemen) to Hadramout fearing
nobody except Allah and the wolf lest it should trouble his sheep, but you are impatient." (See Hadith

“The poor Muhajirun
complained to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about that with which
Allah
had favored the rich over them. He said: ‘O poor people,
shall I not
give you the glad tidings that the poor believers will
enter Paradise
half a day, five hundred years, before the rich?’”
"Trials will not cease afflicting the believing man and the believing woman in their self, children, and wealth, until they meet Allah without having any sin."
“I entered upon the Prophet (ﷺ) when
he
was suffering from a fever, I placed my hand on him and felt heat
with
my hand from above the blanket. I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah,
how
hard it is for you!’ He said: ‘We (Prophets) are like that.
The trial
is multiplied for us and so is the reward.’ I said: ‘O
Messenger of
Allah, which people are most severely tested?’ He
said: ‘The
Prophets.’ I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, then who?’
He said: ‘Then
the righteous, some of whom were tested with poverty
until they could
not find anything except a cloak to put around
themselves. One of them
will rejoice at calamity as one of you would
rejoice at ease.’”
"O Allah! Cause me to live needy, and cause me to die needy and gather me in the group of the needy on the Day of Resurrection." 'Aishah said: "Why O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Indeed they enter Paradise before their rich by forty autumns. O 'Aishah! Do not turn away the needy even if with a piece of date. O 'Aishah! Love the needy and be near them, for indeed Allah will make you near on the Day of Judgement."
