بَلْ قَالُوٓا۟ أَضْغَٰثُ أَحْلَٰمٍۭ بَلِ ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ بَلْ هُوَ شَاعِرٌۭ فَلْيَأْتِنَا بِـَٔايَةٍۢ كَمَآ أُرْسِلَ ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ
Bal qaalooo adghaasu ahlaamim balif taraahu bal huwa shaa'irun falyaatinaa bi Aayatin kamaa ursilal awwaloon
But they say, "[The revelation is but] a mixture of false dreams; rather, he has invented it; rather, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign just as the previous [messengers] were sent [with miracles]."

Nay bal in the three instances below effects a transition from one subject to another but they say regarding those parts of the Qur’ān he the Prophet has brought to them are ‘A muddle of nightmares a confusion of things he has seen in his sleep. Nay he has fabricated it he has invented it; nay he is a poet and what he has brought is merely poetry! So let him bring us a sign such as was sent to the ancients’ like the she-camel Sālih the staff and the glowing hand of Moses. God exalted be He says

Some people asked Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) about the fore-tellers He said. ' They are nothing" They said, 'O

Jinn snatches that true word and pours it Into the ear of his friend (the fore-teller) (as one puts
something into a bottle) The foreteller then mixes with that word one hundred lies."
Some people asked the Prophet (ﷺ) regarding the soothsayers. He said, "They are nothing." They said, "O
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Some of their talks come true." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "That word which happens to be
true is what a Jinn snatches away by stealth (from the Heaven) and pours it in the ears of his friend
(the foreteller) with a sound like the cackling of a hen. The soothsayers then mix with that word, one
hundred lies."
Some people asked Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) about the fore-tellers. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to them, "They are
nothing (i.e., liars)." The people said, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ! Sometimes they tell something which
comes out to be true." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "That word which comes to be true is what a jinx snatches
away by stealing and then pours it in the ear of his fore-teller with a sound similar to the cackle of a
hen, and then they add to it one-hundred lies."
It is nothing (i. e. it is a mere superstition). They said: Allah's Messenger, they at times narrate to us things which we find true. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: That is a word pertaining to truth which a jinn snatches away and then cackles into the ear of his friend as the hen does. And then they mix in it more than one hundred lies.
" From the Prophet(s.a.w), who said:
"Whoever lies about his dream, he will be required to knot barely kernels on the Day of Judgement."
