And [remember] when the Prophet confided to one of his wives a statement; and when she informed [another] of it and Allah showed it to him, he made known part of it and ignored a part. And when he informed her about it, she said, "Who told you this?" He said, "I was informed by the Knowing, the Acquainted."

Scholars offer complementary perspectives
And mention when the Prophet confided to one of his wives namely Hafsa a certain matter which was his prohibition of Māriya telling her ‘Do not reveal it!’; but when she divulged it to ‘Ā’isha reckoning there to be no blame in doing such a thing and God apprised him He informed him of it of what had been divulged he announced part of it to Hafsa and passed over part out of graciousness on his part. So when he told her about it she said ‘Who told you this?’ He said ‘I was told by the Knower the Aware’ namely God.

She ('A'isha) said: If Muhammad were to conceal anything which was sent to him, he would have certainly concealed this verse:" And when thou saidst to him on whom Allah had conferred favour and thou too had conferred favour: Keep thy wife to thyself and fear Allah, and thou wast concealing in thy heart that which Allah was going to disclose, and thou wast fearing men while Allah has a better right that thou shouldst fear Him."
The Prophet (ﷺ) confided to me a secret which I did not disclose to anybody after him. And Um Sulaim
asked me (about that secret) but I did not tell her.
"I perceive the smell of Maghafir (a nasty-smelling gum) on you; have you eaten Maghafir?" He came in to one of them, and she said that to him. He said: "No, rather I drank honey at the house of Zainab bint Jahsh, but I will never do it again." Then the following was revealed: 'O Prophet! Why do you forbid (for yourself) that which Allah has allowed to you.' 'If you two turn in repentance to Allah, (it will be better for you)' about 'Aishah and Hafsah, 'And (remember) when the Prophet disclosed a matter in confidence to one of his wives' refers to him saying: "No, rather I drank honey."

Muhammad) you did hide in your heart that which Allah was about to make manifest, you did fear the
people,' (33.37) was revealed in connection with Zainab and Zaid bin Haritha."
The Prophet (ﷺ) used to stay (for a period) in the house of Zainab bint Jahsh (one of the wives of the
Prophet ) and he used to drink honey in her house. Hafsa and I decided that when the Prophet (ﷺ) entered
upon either of us, she would say, "I smell in you the bad smell of Maghafir (a bad smelling raisin).
Have you eaten Maghafir?" When he entered upon one of us, she said that to him. He replied (to her),
"No, but I have drunk honey in the house of Zainab bint Jahsh, and I will never drink it again." Then
the following verse was revealed: 'O Prophet ! Why do you ban (for you) that which Allah has made
lawful for you?. ..(up to) If you two (wives of the Prophet (ﷺ) turn in repentance to Allah.' (66.1-4) The
two were `Aisha and Hafsa And also the Statement of Allah: 'And (Remember) when the Prophet (ﷺ)
disclosed a matter in confidence to one of his wives!' (66.3) i.e., his saying, "But I have drunk
honey." Hisham said: It also meant his saying, "I will not drink anymore, and I have taken an oath, so
do not inform anybody of that."
