Tafsir Al-Jalalayn: An-Nisaa, Ayah 103

An-Nisaa · Ayah 103 · View Ayah
فَإِذَا قَضَيْتُمُ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ فَٱذْكُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ قِيَٰمًۭا وَقُعُودًۭا وَعَلَىٰ جُنُوبِكُمْ ۚ فَإِذَا ٱطْمَأْنَنتُمْ فَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَٰبًۭا مَّوْقُوتًۭا
And when you have completed the prayer, remember Allah standing, sitting, or [lying] on your sides. But when you become secure, re-establish [regular] prayer. Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times.

Al-Jalalayn Commentary

When you have performed the prayer when you have completed it remember God by repeating ‘There is no god but God’ tahlīl and ‘Glory be to God’ tasbīh standing and sitting and on your sides lying down in other words in all states. Then when you are reassured when you are secure observe the prayer perform it with its proper due surely the prayer is for believers a prescription enjoined that is an obligation at specific times that is its appointed times are set and so it should not be postponed from these times.

(When ye have performed the act of worship) when you have finished performing the prayer of fear, (remember Allah) pray to Allah, (standing) for the one who is healthy, (sitting) for the one who is sick (and reclining) for the one who is wounded or sick. (And when ye are in safety) when you return home and feel no more fear, (observe proper worship) perform the prayer in full: four units of prayer. (Worship at fixed hours hath been) performing the prayer is (enjoined on the believers) prescribed and known both while in residence and during travel: the traveller performs two units of prayer and the resident four.
