أَلَمْ نُهْلِكِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

Al-Jalalayn Commentary

Did We not destroy the ancients for their denial in other words We certainly destroyed them

Scholars offer complementary perspectives

(Destroyed We not the former folk) by means of death as well as chastisement,

I do not know; perhaps it (lizard) might (be one of those natives of) the distant past whose (forms) had beer, distorted.
