The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.

Richness does not lie in the abundance of (worldly) goods but richness is the richness of the soul (heart, self).
Narrated by Abu Huraira reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had said:

Context

In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) teaches that true wealth is not measured by the abundance of material possessions but rather by the richness of the soul. This perspective shifts the focus from external wealth to internal contentment and spiritual fulfillment, encouraging believers to cultivate a sense of gratitude and self-sufficiency.

Modern Application

In modern life, this principle can be reflected in how individuals prioritize their values. It encourages people to seek fulfillment through personal growth, relationships, and spiritual well-being rather than solely accumulating material goods.

Topics

This hadith is tagged with Wealth because it defines true richness in terms of the soul rather than material possessions.
