حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ، وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْعَقَدِيُّ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، - وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحِزَامِيُّ - عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي، هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ "‏ لاَ تَمَنَّوْا لِقَاءَ الْعَدُوِّ فَإِذَا لَقِيتُمُوهُمْ فَاصْبِرُوا‏"‏ ‏.‏
Do not desire an encounter with the enemy; but when you encounter them, be firm.
Narrated by It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

Fight in the way of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress. Indeed. Allah does not like transgressors.

Narrated by It is narrated by Abu Nadr that he learnt from a letter sent by a man from the Aslam tribe, who was a Companion of the Prophet (ﷺ) and whose name was 'Abdullah b. Abu Aufa, to 'Umar b.
