Sahih Muslim #5292

The Book of Clothes and Adornment
Sahih

The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.

Anas reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) granted concession, or Zubair b. Awwam and 'Abd Al-Rahman b. Auf were granted concession, for the wearing of silk because of the itch that they both had.

Context

In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) granted a concession to two companions who were allowed to wear silk due to a specific condition they faced. This illustrates the compassionate nature of Islamic rulings, which consider individual circumstances. The takeaway is that flexibility exists within Islamic guidelines to accommodate personal needs.

Modern Application

Today, this principle of compassion and understanding can be seen in how we accommodate others' needs, whether it be in clothing choices for health reasons or other personal circumstances. It encourages empathy and support in our communities.

Topics

This hadith is tagged with Islamic Dress Code and Adornment Guidelines because it addresses the allowances made for individuals based on their specific needs.
