وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ "‏ إِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحُمَّى مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ فَابْرُدُوهَا بِالْمَاءِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏
Fever is due to vehemence of the heat of Hell, so cool it with water.
Narrated by Ibn Umar reported Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as saying:

Context

In this hadith, Ibn Umar narrates a statement from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ regarding fever. The Prophet likens the intensity of fever to the heat of Hell and advises that it should be cooled with water. This highlights the discomfort associated with fever and offers a practical remedy, emphasizing the importance of care during illness.

Modern Application

Today, when someone has a fever, it's common to use cool compresses or drink plenty of fluids to help reduce body temperature. This hadith reminds us of the importance of taking care of our health and using simple remedies to alleviate suffering.

Then pour over his head from the torment of scalding water."
سُورَةُ المَعَارِجِ
Al-Ma'aarij (The Ascending Stairways)
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1 ayah
كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ
No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell],
سُورَةُ صٓ
Saad (The letter Saad)
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1 ayah
هَٰذَا فَلْيَذُوقُوهُ حَمِيمٌۭ وَغَسَّاقٌۭ
This - so let them taste it - is scalding water and [foul] purulence.
