Sahih Muslim #6909

Characteristics of the Day of Judgment, Paradise, and Hell
Sahih

The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.

It would be said to the non-believers on the Day of Resurrection: If you were to possess gold, filling the whole earth, would you like to secure your freedom by paying that? He would say: Yes. Thereupon it would be said to him: Something easier (than this) was demanded from you (but you paid no heed to it).

Context

Anas b. Malik reports a profound teaching from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ about the Day of Resurrection. The hadith illustrates the desperation of non-believers who would offer vast wealth to secure their freedom, only to be reminded of the simpler demands that were ignored in life. This serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of one's choices.

Modern Application

This hadith can prompt individuals to reflect on their priorities and the importance of heeding Allah's guidance in this life. It serves as a reminder to focus on righteous deeds rather than material wealth, which ultimately holds no value in the hereafter.

Topics

This hadith is tagged with Day of Judgment and Reward of Deeds because it emphasizes the importance of one's actions and the consequences faced on the Day of Resurrection.
