وَحَدَّثَنِي حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الشَّاعِرِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ زُهَيْرًا، يَقُولُ قَالَ جَابِرٌ - أَوْ سَمِعْتُ جَابِرًا، يَقُولُ - إِنَّ عِنْدِي لَخَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ حَدِيثٍ مَا حَدَّثْتُ مِنْهَا بِشَىْءٍ ‏.‏ قَالَ ثُمَّ حَدَّثَ يَوْمًا بِحَدِيثٍ فَقَالَ هَذَا مِنَ الْخَمْسِينَ أَلْفًا ‏.‏
