The Book of Seeking Refuge with Allah

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ، - يَعْنِي الشَّحَّامَ - قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمٌ، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ - أَنَّهُ كَانَ سَمِعَ وَالِدَهُ، يَقُولُ فِي دُبُرِ الصَّلاَةِ ‏ "‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْكُفْرِ وَالْفَقْرِ وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَجَعَلْتُ أَدْعُو بِهِنَّ فَقَالَ يَا بُنَىَّ أَنَّى عُلِّمْتَ هَؤُلاَءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ قُلْتُ يَا أَبَتِ سَمِعْتُكَ تَدْعُو بِهِنَّ فِي دُبُرِ الصَّلاَةِ فَأَخَذْتُهُنَّ عَنْكَ ‏.‏ قَالَ فَالْزَمْهُنَّ يَا بُنَىَّ فَإِنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ يَدْعُو بِهِنَّ فِي دُبُرِ الصَّلاَةِ ‏.‏

He heard his father say following the prayer: "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-kufri wal-faqri, wa 'adhabil-qabri (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from Kufr, poverty and the torment of the grave.)" I started to recite them and he said: "O my son, where did you learn these words?" I said: "O my father, I heard you saying this supplication at the end of the prayer, and I learned them from you." He said: "Continue to recite them, O my son, for the Prophet of Allah used to say this supplication at the end of the prayer."

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

قَالَ مَعَاذَ ٱللَّهِ أَن نَّأْخُذَ إِلَّا مَن وَجَدْنَا مَتَٰعَنَا عِندَهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذًۭا لَّظَٰلِمُونَ

He said, "[I seek] the refuge of Allah [to prevent] that we take except him with whom we found our possession. Indeed, we would then be unjust."

قَالُوا۟ يَٰٓأَبَانَا ٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا خَٰطِـِٔينَ

They said, "O our father, ask for us forgiveness of our sins; indeed, we have been sinners."

۞ رَبِّ قَدْ ءَاتَيْتَنِى مِنَ ٱلْمُلْكِ وَعَلَّمْتَنِى مِن تَأْوِيلِ ٱلْأَحَادِيثِ ۚ فَاطِرَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ أَنتَ وَلِىِّۦ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْءَاخِرَةِ ۖ تَوَفَّنِى مُسْلِمًۭا وَأَلْحِقْنِى بِٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ

My Lord, You have given me [something] of sovereignty and taught me of the interpretation of dreams. Creator of the heavens and earth, You are my protector in this world and in the Hereafter. Cause me to die a Muslim and join me with the righteous."

سُورَةُ الأَحۡقَافِ

Al-Ahqaf (The Dunes)

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1 ayah

وَٱلَّذِى قَالَ لِوَٰلِدَيْهِ أُفٍّۢ لَّكُمَآ أَتَعِدَانِنِىٓ أَنْ أُخْرَجَ وَقَدْ خَلَتِ ٱلْقُرُونُ مِن قَبْلِى وَهُمَا يَسْتَغِيثَانِ ٱللَّهَ وَيْلَكَ ءَامِنْ إِنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّۭ فَيَقُولُ مَا هَٰذَآ إِلَّآ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

But one who says to his parents, "Uff to you; do you promise me that I will be brought forth [from the earth] when generations before me have already passed on [into oblivion]?" while they call to Allah for help [and to their son], "Woe to you! Believe! Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth." But he says, "This is not but legends of the former people" -
