ٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَحْمِلُ كُلُّ أُنثَىٰ وَمَا تَغِيضُ ٱلْأَرْحَامُ وَمَا تَزْدَادُ ۖ وَكُلُّ شَىْءٍ عِندَهُۥ بِمِقْدَارٍ
Allaahu ya'lamu maa tahmilu kullu unsaa wa maa tagheedul arhaamu wa maa tazdaad, wa kullu shai'in 'indahoo bimiqdaar
Allah knows what every female carries and what the wombs lose [prematurely] or exceed. And everything with Him is by due measure.

Scholars offer complementary perspectives
God knows what every female bears of male or female one or more and otherwise and what the wombs reduce of the time of gestation and what they increase of it. And everything with Him is according to a precise measure a precise amount and limit which it does not exceed;

will happen tomorrow but Allah; none knows what is in the wombs (a male child or a female) but
Allah; none knows when it will rain but Allah; none knows at what place one will die; none knows
when the Hour will be established but Allah." (See The Qur'an 31:34.")
Allah, the Exlated and Glorious, has appointed an angel as the caretaker of the womb, and he would say: My Lord, it is now a drop of semen; my Lord, It is now a clot of blood; my Lord, it has now become a lump of flesh, and when Allah decides to give it a final shape, the angel says: My Lord, would it be male or female or would he be an evil or a good person? What about his livelihood and his age? And it is all written as he is in the womb of his mother.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Allah puts an angel in charge of the uterus and the angel says, 'O Lord, (it is)
semen! O Lord, (it is now ) a clot! O Lord, (it is now) a piece of flesh.' And then, if Allah wishes to
complete its creation, the angel asks, 'O Lord, (will it be) a male or a female? A wretched (an evil
doer) or a blessed (doer of good)? How much will his provisions be? What will his age be?' So all that
is written while the creature is still in the mother's womb."
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "At every womb Allah appoints an angel who says, 'O Lord! A drop of semen, O
Lord! A clot. O Lord! A little lump of flesh." Then if Allah wishes (to complete) its creation, the angel
asks, (O Lord!) Will it be a male or female, a wretched or a blessed, and how much will his provision
be? And what will his age be?' So all that is written while the child is still in the mother's womb."
There is an angel who looks after the womb when Allah decides to create any- thing after more than forty nights are over; the rest of the hadith is the same.
