يَٰنِسَآءَ ٱلنَّبِىِّ مَن يَأْتِ مِنكُنَّ بِفَٰحِشَةٍۢ مُّبَيِّنَةٍۢ يُضَٰعَفْ لَهَا ٱلْعَذَابُ ضِعْفَيْنِ ۚ وَكَانَ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ يَسِيرًۭا
Yaa nisaaa'an Nabiyyi mai yaati minkunna bifaa hishatim mubaiyinatiny yudaa'af lahal 'azaabu di'fain wa kaana zaalika 'alal laahi yaseera
O wives of the Prophet, whoever of you should commit a clear immorality - for her the punishment would be doubled two fold, and ever is that, for Allah, easy.

Scholars largely agree on this ayah
O wives of the Prophet! Whoever of you commits manifest indecency read mubayyana or mubayyina meaning respectively ‘it has become evident’ meaning ‘one that is evident’ the chastisement shall be doubled yudā‘af a variant reading has 2nd form yuda‘‘af and still another has nuda‘‘if ‘We shall double’ in which case read al-‘adhāba as accusative for her in other words twice the chastisement for other women; and that is easy for God.

When the slave-woman of any of you commits adultery and this (offence of hers) becomes clear, she should be flogged (as the prescribed) punishment, but hurl no reproach at her. If she commits adultery again, she should (again be punished) by flogging, but hurl no reproach upon her. If she commits fornication for the third time and it becomes clear, then he should sell her, even if only for a rope of hair.
The Qur’anic verse goes: “If any of your woman are guilty of lewdness, take the evidence of four (reliable) witnesses from amongst you against them, and if they testify, Confine them to houses until death do chain them or Allah ordains for them some (other) way. Allah then mentioned man after woman and combined them in another verse : “If two men among you are guilty of lewdness, punish them both. If they repent and amend, leave them alone. This command was abrogated by the verse relating to flogging : “The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication – flog each of them with one hundred stripes.
When a man declares his wife unlawful for himself that is an oath which must be atoned, and he said: There is in the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) a noble pattern for you.
If someone says to his wife, "You are unlawful to me." he must make an expiation (for his oath). Ibn
`Abbas added: There is for you in Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), an excellent example to follow.
"The sanctity of the wives of the Mujahidin to those who stay behind is like the sanctity of their mothers. There is no man among those who stay behind who takes on the responsibility of looking after the wife of one of the Mujahidin (and betrays him) but he (the betrayer) will be made to stand before him on the Day Resurrection and it will be said: 'O So-and-so, this is so-and-so, take whatever you want from his good deeds.'" Then the Prophet (ﷺ) turned to his Companions and said: "What do you think: Will he leave him any of his good deeds?"
