And when adversity touches man, he calls upon his Lord, turning to Him [alone]; then when He bestows on him a favor from Himself, he forgets Him whom he called upon before, and he attributes to Allah equals to mislead [people] from His way. Say, "Enjoy your disbelief for a little; indeed, you are of the companions of the Fire."

And when distress befalls a person that is the disbeliever he supplicates his Lord he implores turning returning to Him penitently. Then when He bestows on him a grace from Himself he forgets he neglects Him Whom he had supplicated implored before namely God in other words mā functions as min ‘whom’ and sets up equals associates with God that he may lead others astray read li-yadilla or li-yudilla from His way — from the religion of Islam. Say ‘Revel in your ingratitude for a while — for the remainder of your term of life. You shall indeed be among the inhabitants of the Fire’.

saying: “...and thus become of the unjust.” He said:
“Aqra’ bin
Habis At-Tamimi and ‘Uyainah bin Hisn Al-Fazri came
and found the
Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) with Suhaib, Bilal, ‘Ammar
and Khabbab,
sitting with some of the believers who were weak (i.e.,
socially).
When they saw them around the Prophet (ﷺ) they looked
down on them.
They took him aside and said: ‘We want you to sit
with us along, so
that the ‘Arabs will recognize our superiority.
If the delegations of
the Arabs come to you we will feel ashamed if
the Arabs see us with
these slaves. So, when we come to you, make
them get up from your
presence, then when we have finished, sit with
them if you wish.’ He
said: ‘Yes.’ They said: ‘Write a
document for us (binding you to
that).’ So he called for a piece of
paper and he called ‘Ali to write,
and we were sitting in a corner.
Then Jibra’il (as), came down and
said: “And turn not away those
who invoke their Lord, morning and
afternoon seeking His Face. You
are accountable for them in nothing,
and they are accountable for you
in nothing, that you may turn them
away, and thus become of the
unjust.” Then he mentioned Aqra’
bin Habis and ‘Uyaynah
bin Hisn, then he said: “Thus We have tried
some of them with
others, that they might say: ‘Is it these (poor
believers) whom
Allah has favored from amongst us?’ Does not Allah
know best those
who are grateful.” Then he said: “When those
who believe
in Our Ayat come to you, say: Salamun ‘Alaykum (peace be
on you);
your Lord has written (prescribed) mercy for Himself”.”
He
said: “Then we got so close to him that our knees were
touching
his, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was sitting with us.
When he
wanted to get up, he stood up and left us. Then Allah
revealed: “And
keep yourself patiently with those who call on their
Lord morning and
afternoon, seeking His Face; and let not your eyes
overlook them,”

“and who follows his own lusts, and those affair

He said: ‘May ‘Uyainah

the parable of this world. Khabbab
said: “We used to sit with the
Prophet (ﷺ) and if the time came
for him to leave, we would get up
and leave him, then he would
leave.”
'From (the signs of) the son of Adam's prosperity, is his satisfaction with what Allah decreed for him, and from the son of Adam's misery is his avoiding to request guidance from Allah, and from the son of Adam's misery is his anger with what Allah decreed for him."
“When
Allah wants to destroy a person, He takes away modesty from him, you
will only see him with the wrath of Allah upon him, and he will be
hated by people. When you only see him with the wrath of Allah upon
him, and hated by people, then honesty will be taken away from him,
and when honesty is taken away from him, you will only see him as a
traitor who is called such by others. When you only see him as a
traitor who is called such by others, then mercy will be taken away
from him, and when mercy is taken away from him, you will only see
him
as rejected and accursed, and when you only see him as rejected
and
accursed, then the bond of Islam will be taken away from him.”
"The son of Adam will be brought on the Day of Judgement as if he is a goat kid to be stood before Allah, Most High. Allah will say to him: 'I gave to you, I granted you, and I bestowed favors upon you. So what did you do?' So he says: 'I collected it, increased it, and left it as more than what it was. So return me and I shall give it all to You.' So He will say to him: 'Show me what you have prepared.' So he says: 'My Lord! I collected it, increased it and left it more than it was, So return me and I shall give it all to You.' So when the servant does not present any good he will be entered into the Fire." Abu 'Eisa said: More than one
narrator reported this from Al-Hasan as his saying. And they did
not rely upon Ismä'il bin Muslim

There are narrations on this topic
from Abu Hurairah and Abu
Sa'eed Al-Khudri.
“What is wrong with you, O Hanzalah?” He replied: “Hanzalah has become a hypocrite O Abu Bakr! When we are with the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) we remember the Fire and Paradise as if we are looking at them with the naked eye. But when we return we busy ourselves with our wives and livelihood and we forget so much.” He(Abu Bakr) said: “By Allah! The same thing happens to me. Let us go to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w).” (Hanzalah said:) “So he went." When the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) saw him, he said: “What is wrong with you O Hanzalah?” He said: “Hanzalah has become a hypocrite O Messenger of Allah! When we are with you we remember the Fire and Paradise as if we can see them with the naked eye. But when we return we are busy with our wives and livelihood, and we forget so much.” He said: “So the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'If you were to abide in the state that you are in when you are with me, then the Angels would shake hands with you in your gatherings, and upon your bedding, and in your paths. But O Hanzalah! There is a time for this and a time for that.'” (Sahih)
