Tafsir Al-Jalalayn: Al-Baqara, Ayah 192
فَإِنِ ٱنتَهَوْا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ
And if they cease, then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

Scholars offer complementary perspectives
(But if they desist) from their disbelief, association of partners with Allah and turn to Allah (then lo! Allah is Forgiving) towards those who turn to Him, (Merciful) towards those who die in a state of repentance.

But if they desist from unbelief and become Muslims surely God is Forgiving Merciful to them.
