Tafsir Al-Jalalayn: Saba, Ayah 53
وَقَدْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ مِن قَبْلُ ۖ وَيَقْذِفُونَ بِٱلْغَيْبِ مِن مَّكَانٍۭ بَعِيدٍۢ
And they had already disbelieved in it before and would assault the unseen from a place far away.

Scholars offer complementary perspectives
(When they disbelieved in it) in Muhammad (pbuh) and in the Qur'an (of yore) before they were swallowed by the earth. (They aim at the unseen) they did but surmise in the life of the world when they said there is no Paradise or hell (from afar off) after death; it is also said that this means: after death, they ask to be returned to the life of this world by surmise.

And they throw guesses at the Unseen from a far-off place in other words they make guesses about something the knowledge of which was hidden far away from them as when they would say that the Prophet was a sorcerer or a poet or a soothsayer or that the Qur’ān was sorcery poetry or soothsaying.
