Tafsir Ibn Abbas: As-Saaffaat, Ayah 74
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
But not the chosen servants of Allah.

Scholars offer diverse perspectives
all except God’s sincere servants namely the believers who are saved from chastisement because they were sincere in their worship mukhlisīna; or if one reads mukhlasīna because God has made them sincerely devoted to such worship.

Allah then made an exception, saying: (Save singled minded slaves of Allah) who are protected from disbelief and idolatry; and it is said that this means according to a variant reading: except those chosen for worship and the profession of Allah's divine Oneness. The latter did not disbelieve and therefore We did not destroy them.
