Jihad (Kitab Al-Jihad)
Da'if

The Arabic includes the chain of narration (sanad) and the collector's commentary; the English translation shows the Prophet's words only.

The name of the narrator Abu al-'Abbas, a poet, is al-Sa'ib b. Farrukh.
Narrated by ‘Abd Allah bin ‘Amr said “A man came to the Prophet(ﷺ) and said “Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ), May I take part in jihad?” He asked “Do you have parents?” He replied “Yes”. So, strive for them.” Abu Dawud said:

Context

In this hadith, a man approaches the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ seeking permission to participate in jihad. The Prophet ﷺ inquires about his parents, advising him to strive for them instead. This interaction emphasizes the significance of familial responsibilities and the prioritization of caring for one's parents over engaging in external conflicts.

Modern Application

Today, this principle can be applied to the importance of caring for elderly parents and prioritizing family obligations. It serves as a reminder to balance personal ambitions with the responsibilities we have towards our loved ones.

Topics
