إِذْ يُغَشِّيكُمُ ٱلنُّعَاسَ أَمَنَةًۭ مِّنْهُ وَيُنَزِّلُ عَلَيْكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۭ لِّيُطَهِّرَكُم بِهِۦ وَيُذْهِبَ عَنكُمْ رِجْزَ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ وَلِيَرْبِطَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِكُمْ وَيُثَبِّتَ بِهِ ٱلْأَقْدَامَ
Iz yughashsheekumun nu'assa amanatam minhu wa yunazzilu 'alaikum minas samaaa'i maaa'al liyutah hirakum bihee wa yuzhiba 'ankum rijzash Shaitaani wa liyarbita 'ala quloobikum wa yusabbita bihil aqdaam
[Remember] when He overwhelmed you with drowsiness [giving] security from Him and sent down upon you from the sky, rain by which to purify you and remove from you the evil [suggestions] of Satan and to make steadfast your hearts and plant firmly thereby your feet.

Scholars offer complementary perspectives
Remember when He caused slumber to overcome you as security against the fear that had befallen you from Him from God and sent down upon you water from the heaven to purify you thereby from minor and major ritual impurities; and to remove from you the evil of Satan his whisperings to you that had you been on the right path you would not have been thirsty and impure while the idolaters enjoyed access to water; and to strengthen to seal your hearts with certainty and endurance; and to make firm your feet lest they sink in the sand.

A cloud came and it rained till the roof started leaking and in those days the roof used to be of the
branches of date-palms. Iqama was pronounced and I saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)s prostrating in water and
mud and even I saw the mark of mud on his forehead.
A man was reciting Surat Al-Kahf and his horse was tied with two ropes beside him. A cloud came
down and spread over that man, and it kept on coming closer and closer to him till his horse started
jumping (as if afraid of something). When it was morning, the man came to the Prophet, and told him
of that experience. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "That was As-Sakina (tranquility) which descended because of
(the recitation of) the Qur'an."
