Q: What does Quran 6:12 mean?

Quran 6:12 (Surah Al-An'aam, Ayah 12) translates to: "Say, "To whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth?" Say, "To Allah." He has decreed upon Himself mercy. Qul limam maa fis samaawaati wal ardi qul lillaah; kataba 'alaa nafsihir rahmah; la yajma 'annakum ilaa Yawmil Qiyaamati laa raiba feeh; allazeena khasirooo anfusahum fahum laa yu'minoon

Say ‘To whom belongs what is in the heavens and in the earth?’ Say ‘To God for even if they do not say this there is no other response. He has prescribed He has decreed for Himself mercy as a bounty from Him — this is a gentle summoning of them to the faith. He will surely gather you together on the Day of Resurrection of which there is no doubt no uncertainty in order to requite you for your deeds. Those who have forfeited their own souls this is the subject — by exposing them to the chastisement — they do not believe this is the predicate.

“When Allah assembles the first and the last on the Day of Resurrection, a day concerning which there is no doubt, a caller will cry out: ‘Whoever used to associate anyone else in an action that he did for Allah, let him seek his reward from someone other than Allah, for Allah is so self-sufficient that He has no need of any associate.’”

Sunan Ibn Majah #4271Sa'eed bin Musayyab narrated that Abu Hurairah used to say:Hasan

"The Messenger of Allah said: Allah will seize the earth on the Day of Ressurection, and He will roll up the heavens in his Right Hand, then He will say, "I am the Sovereign. Where are the kings of the earth?'"

Sahih Muslim #6876Abu Huraira reported Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as saying:Sahih

Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, will take in His grip the Earth on the Day of Judgment and He would roll up the sky in His right hand and would say: I am the Lord; where are the sovereigns of the world?

Sunan Abu Dawud #4734‘Abd Allah b. ‘Umar reported the Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) as saying:

Allah will fold the heavens an the day of Resurrection, then seizing them in His right hand he will say: I am the king. Where are the mighty men? Where are the proud men? He will then fold the earths and take them in his other hand (According to the version of Ibn al-Ala), and then say ; I am the King. Where are the mighty men? Where are the proud men?

Sahih Muslim #6877Abdullah b. 'Umar reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying:Sahih

Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, would fold the Heavens on the Day of Judgment and then He would place them on His right hand and say: I am the Lord; where are the haughty and where are the proud (today)? He would fold the' earth (placing it) on the left hand and say: I am the Lord; where are the haughty and where are the proud (today)?
