۞ وَإِذِ ٱسْتَسْقَىٰ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوْمِهِۦ فَقُلْنَا ٱضْرِب بِّعَصَاكَ ٱلْحَجَرَ ۖ فَٱنفَجَرَتْ مِنْهُ ٱثْنَتَا عَشْرَةَ عَيْنًۭا ۖ قَدْ عَلِمَ كُلُّ أُنَاسٍۢ مَّشْرَبَهُمْ ۖ كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ مِن رِّزْقِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا تَعْثَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ
Wa izis tasqaa Moosaa liqawmihee faqulnad rib bi'asaakal hajara fanfajarat minhusnataaa 'ashrata 'aynan qad 'alima kullu unaasim mash rabahum kuloo washraboo mir rizqil laahi wa laa ta'saw fil ardi mufsideen
And [recall] when Moses prayed for water for his people, so We said, "Strike with your staff the stone." And there gushed forth from it twelve springs, and every people knew its watering place. "Eat and drink from the provision of Allah, and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption."

And mention when Moses sought water for his people for they suffered thirst in the wilderness We said ‘Strike with your staff the rock the one that ran off with his robe a light cube-like rock about the size of a man’s head made of marble and he struck it and there exploded there burst and gushed forth from it twelve fountains equal to the number of tribes each people each tribe among them came to know their drinking-place which they did not share with any of the others. And We said to them ‘Eat and drink of that which God has provided and do not be degenerate in the earth seeking corruption’ mufsidīn is a circumstantial qualifier emphasising its operator the subject of the verb lā ta‘thaw ‘do not be degenerate’ derived from ‘athiya meaning afsada ‘to corrupt’.

Once we were with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) on a journey, and we ran short of water. He said, "Bring the water
remaining with you." The people brought a utensil containing a little water. He placed his hand in it
and said, "Come to the blessed water, and the Blessing is from Allah." I saw the water flowing from
among the fingers of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) , and no doubt, we heard the meal glorifying Allah, when it was
being eaten (by him).
Jabir bin `Abdullah said, "The people became very thirsty on the day of Al-Hudaibiya (Treaty). A
small pot containing some water was in front of the Prophet (ﷺ) and when he had finished the ablution,
the people rushed towards him. He asked, 'What is wrong with you?' They replied, 'We have no water
either for performing ablution or for drinking except what is present in front of you.' So he placed his
hand in that pot and the water started flowing among his fingers like springs. We all drank and
performed ablution (from it)." I asked Jabir, "How many were you?" he replied, "Even if we had been
one-hundred-thousand, it would have been sufficient for us, but we were fifteen-hundred."
Jabir said "On the day of Al-Hudaibiya, the people felt thirsty and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had a utensil
containing water. He performer ablution from it and then the people came towards him. Allah's
Apostle said, 'What is wrong with you?' The people said, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! We haven't got any water
to perform ablution with or to drink, except what you have in your utensil.' So the Prophet (ﷺ) put his
hand in the utensil and the water started spouting out between his fingers like springs. So we drank
and performed ablution." I said to Jabir, "What was your number on that day?" He replied, "Even if
we had been one hundred thousand, that water would have been sufficient for us. Anyhow, we were
1500.'
"We were with the Prophet (ﷺ) and they could not find any water. A vessel was brought to him and he put his hand in it, and I saw water springing from between his fingers. He said: 'Come to a means of purification and a blessing from Allah, may He be glorified.'" (One of the narrators) Al-A'mash said: "Salim bin Abi Al-Ja'd told me: I said to Jabir: "How many were you that day?' He said: "One thousand five hundred."
I was with the Prophet (ﷺ) and the time for the `Asr prayer became due. We had no water with us except a
little which was put in a vessel and was brought to the Prophet (ﷺ) . He put his hand into it and spread out
his fingers and then said, "Come along! Hurry up! All those who want to perform ablution. The
blessing is from Allah.'' I saw the water gushing out from his fingers. So the people performed the
ablution and drank, and I tried to drink more of that water (beyond my thirst and capacity), for I knew
that it was a blessing. The sub-narrator said: I asked Jabir, "How many persons were you then?" He
replied, "We were one-thousand four hundred men." Salim said: Jabir said, 1500.
